Capital Square Housing Trust Names Gus Remppies President

Capital Square Housing Trust (“the REIT”), a real estate investment trust sponsored by Capital Square, today announced that its board of directors has appointed Gus Remppies as president of the REIT. The appointment strengthens the REIT’s leadership as it continues to grow a portfolio of high-quality housing communities across the Southeast.

The appointment comes during a period of sustained growth for the REIT, which has expanded its portfolio to 10 multifamily communities valued at $389.5 million, concentrated in high-growth Southeastern markets. Capital Square Housing Trust continues to pursue acquisitions that strengthen the REIT’s portfolio quality and geographic footprint.

“Gus’s decades of experience building and managing multifamily portfolios – including his work to help successfully shepherd Landmark Apartment Trust through one of the most challenging economic chapters in our nation’s history – make him exactly the right leader for the Housing Trust at this stage of its growth,” said Louis Rogers, chairman of the board of Capital Square Housing Trust. “The board was focused on finding a president with a proven record of institutional-quality execution and a deep understanding of the responsibilities that come with managing a shareholder-owned REIT. Gus meets that bar, and we’re confident his leadership will accelerate the growth we’re building for our shareholders.”

Remppies brings more than three decades of multifamily real estate experience to the role. He most recently served as president of Capital Square Living, the wholly owned property management subsidiary of Capital Square, where he built and led the platform to its current scale of more than 13,000 apartment homes across 58 properties in 23 markets, 35 cities and eight states, supported by more than 300 team members.

Prior to Capital Square Living, Remppies served as an executive officer of five public companies, including executive vice president and chief investment officer of Cornerstone Realty Income Trust, an apartment REIT with a market capitalization of $1.5 billion. At Cornerstone, Remppies oversaw the acquisition and development of more than 30,000 units and helped lead the REIT through its successful public listing on the New York Stock Exchange. Upon the sale of Cornerstone, Remppies immediately co-founded a new publicly offered nontraded REIT, Landmark Apartment Trust (formerly known as Grubb Ellis Apartment REIT), where he had responsibility and oversite of 700+ team members. Remppies has been responsible for the acquisition and financing of approximately 75,000 apartment units during his career.

“I’m honored to take on this role at a pivotal moment for Capital Square Housing Trust,” said Remppies. “The REIT has built a high-quality portfolio, and I look forward to working with the board and the broader Capital Square platform to build on that foundation as we grow toward our next phase.”

As part of this transition, Whit Huffman, previously president and chief investment and strategy officer of Capital Square Housing Trust, has assumed the role of chief executive officer of the REIT. Louis Rogers continues to serve as chairman of the board.

Capital Square Housing Trust’s portfolio average occupancy of 95.3% and average in-place rent rates of $1,525 per unit across its communities as of June 30, 2026. The company has experienced an 82% year-over-year revenue growth over the trailing twelve months as a direct result of the expansion of the assets under management.
