Teresa Shields Parker created Jayne as the central character of her Fiction That Transforms series. Jayne is a woman who moves through life’s most defining relationships and comes out changed on the other side. Each book in the series follows her through a different relationship: her father, her sister, her mother, her husband.
Parker says Jayne was not her idea. “Right after I wrote my first book, ‘Sweet Grace,’ God had given me a story of a character named Jayne,” she said. “He even gave me the title of ‘Rebuilding Jayne’ and the story line.” At the time, Parker was a journalist and nonfiction writer. She set the idea aside. Years later, God brought it back to her.
“He told me to take a character who has a problem they don’t know how to solve, then help them solve it by working with God and others who have been there,” Parker said.
Parker is the author of “Sweet Grace: How I Lost 250 Pounds,” the No. 1 Christian Weight-Loss Memoir on Amazon. She spent a decade writing nonfiction before turning to fiction. The medium is different but the message is the same. Real transformation happens in relationship with God and with others.
